TRAINZ RAILWAY SIMULATOR
Review

Instead of model trains this time it's a
Railway Simulator and a very good one we must say.
It is an improvement over the other TRS
titles over the past years with plenty of added extras. 10 brand new
fully realised routes - including Hawes Junction, a branch line off the
Settle-Carlisle route that runs through some picturesque Yorkshire
landscape. 480 locomotives/rolling stock
including diesel locomotive classes 37, 50 and 55, the Flying Scotsman
and Mallard steam locomotives. Easy to use map editing tools – create
your own routes and scenery with over 7,500 scenery items. In-depth
driving tutorials – learn to drive diesel and steam trains, assign
commodities to wagons, issue orders to drivers, couple and decouple
wagons and much more.
If you haven't used any of these titles
before it is really easy to get into, as it has simple tutorials from
the beginning which are made up of easy to follow tasks. When you
complete the main task you can then move onto the next tutorial.
These start from getting your engine going, through to tasks such as
taking your freight train to be loaded with coal and then delivering it
to the power station.
You get to learn the different controls
from simple Dcc, Diesel, Electric and Steam Loco's with fully featured
brakes, and reasonably realistic horns and whistles. All the
trackside signals and overhead power and also speed limits to stick to,
or not.
There is a varied amount of journeys you
can take, as well as just shunting rolling stock around the yard.
You can even take a break from shunting by stopping in a siding and
watch the various trains come and go through the station. If it's
not the Goods and Freight, then you could follow passenger schedules and
build up your own fully timetabled service.
An excellent amount of rolling stock and locos from
all over the world which you can choose from and climb aboard.
Moving scenery which interacts with what's going on, we nearly had a
smash with a driver which decided to jump the lights at the crossing!!
No joke either.
There are a number of routes which come on the disc,
but if that's not enough you can get plenty of routes to download online
and you can also try and create your own.
CONCLUSION
Positive
A good job on
improving what we have seen so far. Many Loco's to drive
including classes 37, 50 and 55. Good looking graphics and scenery
with plenty of tasks to keep you interested.
Negative
No negative points at
this time. I have really enjoyed this title and will add any
niggles if I come across them.
