CHRISTMAS AT
P4A.COM
Standard Gauge by the P4A.COM Office
This layout is part of the Christmas display in the
office of www.p4a.com . Sent in to us
by Kent Anderson.
"I have been
interested in all types of trains for many years, but this is my first
layout. as a first beginner's attempt I tried to keep it simple in
design, construction and operation. It is displayed in the
lobby of p4A.com ltd. therefore it was limited in size to 4' by 8'.
The train is a
MTH #10 standard gauge Christmas
express with a few extra mike's SG cars. I built the benchwork from
MIANNE woodworking components supporting a 1/2 plywood sheet covered
by in-door and out-door carpet. The track is screwed down and I
placed the mike's switch house, a bumper, several pre-war lionel lamp
posts and an early #66 lionel semaphore around the layout. The rest
was decorated by two editors in my office, Lois Thomas and Shelly Steffano. A third editor, Claudette Heinecke, decorated the
Christmas
tree. we believe in teamwork at p4A!
The layout is
"peopled" by part of my 30-year collection of Swedish tomte elves.
They come out of hibernation every Christmas and I don't think they
have ever appeared so happy and playful.

view of the layout from the front of the lobby.
2) The Christmas express round gumdrop curve and gumdrop bump where the
tomte's go to ski and snowboard.
3) The centre
area of the layout where some tomte's are waiting for a ride at the
switch. the more naturalistic trees are from Michael's. the birches
are especially good this year.

5) The express
rounds Christmas tree curve and pauses at the switch house to pick-up
more tomte's to help with Santa's toy distribution.
6) This
picture was taken with the train in motion....note the neat headlight
effect and speed smudges.
7) The express
highballs it down the mainline toward gumdrop curve with a gondola of tomte's ready to help at
Santa's call.
8) Santa
pauses the express to take a look at the tomte's new fire engine still
waiting to be off-loaded from it's mike's flatcare on the spur.
Santa
thinks it's nice, very nice!
9) Santa's
supporting cast of tomte's take a bow and wish a merry Christmas to
one and all.
