Koningsgracht
HO Gauge By
Wieger van der Slikke
In 1997 I started with the my
plan called "Koningsgracht", a scene based on
a 19th century neighborhood of Amsterdam with an underground
“metro” station below and a train running from one end to the other in
both directions.
Koningsgracht (King's Canal)
is an imaginary station with a design which could be described as
being typical for the seventies or early eighties. The station hall is
two storeys high, a feature which is more like some metro stations in
Brussels than the ones in Amsterdam. The main reason is that only one
storey would be too low to enable a good look on the underground
platforms.
Inside the station, there are two platforms (each
long enough for a six-car train), a couple of stairs, pedestrian
tunnels, shops, ticket machines and illuminated billboards.
I have also made a train which consists of two multiple units. The train
looks very much like some multiple units in Amsterdam, but still is my
own creation.
The street scene is not ready
yet, so far I have made some houses which are typical of many of the
19th century neighborhoods in Amsterdam.
The whole layout is made from
scratch without using any kits, because there is not much available in
this field of modeling.
