This layout is built to Scalefour standards replicating a location, Colinton, on the Caledonian Railway's Balerno branch in Edinburgh.  Freight traffic is generated by paper and grain mill operations along the branch.

The lack of a run round loop in the station restricts shunting movements.  With signalling removed, one engine in steam is the norm thus simplifying operations.
