BLAIR ATHOLL towards DRUMOCHTER
OOGauge By John & Ian McCreadie
Blair Atholl towards
Drumochter is a replica of the Highland Main Line on its journey
northwards from Bridge of Tilt through Blair Atholl village and the
gruelling 1:78 climb to Drumochter Summit.
Set in early October, the
village is still enjoying some late autumn sunshine whilst further
north, an early winter snowfall has caused havoc to drivers on the A9
trunk road to Inverness and the snow gates have been closed for the
first time this year. On closer inspection you will find the Police
trying to pacify the stranded motorists while the roads department
attempts to clear the drifts. Railway customers are completely
unaffected due to Perth Control’s foresight in having the independent
snowploughs operational all night.
To provide the greatest variety, the
trains running are those you would have seen between 1978 and 1990.
However don’t be surprised if you should see some modern interlopers
or unusual classes of locomotive on charters and rail tours.

pictures.
