Ashfield &
Western
By Richard Cox
What you are seeing is the result of
about 10 years and the area is about 10 by 20 and the result of my
modelling ability. If it was built, I built it, if it was painted I
painted it. If a mistake was made, I made it.
The Ashfield and Western is a local
independent road that connects to the PRR for outside connections. The
A&W supports the "Kay Coal Company" as well as the town of Ashfield. The
local A&W shops act as a secondary repair facility for the PRR . Steam
is, for the most part gone during the week, but on weekends the steam
passenger units are local favourites. Since the A&W still repairs and
runs steam they will bid on repairing others steam units so, almost
anything steam may show up. The A&W sees the diesel as the future and is
always looking for a road that may wish to sell a damaged or unneeded
unit. The "new " diesel will be rebuilt and usually painted before going
into service. The owners also realize that they can make money by
owning rolling stock. All of the signals work on a self designed
block occupancy detector and I have just finished the conversion to
DCC by Lenz.
