Build your own Turntable

Below are detailed pictures of  Lee Weldons scratch built turntable.

For a full description of how this was built Click Here.

1)  Pit Floor.  Constructed of sheet styrene with headphone jack mounted in centre.  Circular track is cut from the solid side of Atlas flex track, and soldered into a circle, using the embroidery hoop as a guide
2)  Side view of the bridge.  I used the operators house as a reminder of the polarity as it related to the spur tracks and the DPDT switch.  At one time the bridge had railing details and an overhead power pole, but these were lost during years of storage.
3)  Bridge Bottom:  Shows the male side of the headphone jack.  The flat profile and the screw mounts make this very easy to centre, which is vital to proper operation.  Also, note the assembly of tube and square stock that make up the bolsters for the guide wheels.
4)  Photo shows end detail of bridge, with modified train wheels to guide the bridge along the circular rail.  Also shows the "Box" style construction of the bridge.  All is scratch built.
5)  Headphone jack from below.  Shows the very simple wiring.  Wire leads go to a DPDT switch to allow the polarity to be reversed as the turntable revolves 360 degrees.
6)  Shown with an F-7 diesel to show the size of the table.  You can apply the same principles using a larger embroidery hoop to make a larger turntable.
7)  Assembled.  The bridge is designed for 2 hoops depth.  The bridge is rounded on the ends to allow a snug fit.
